1901

The American Dream

Homme Wigboldy initiates the business in Chicago with support from the community, acquiring his first horse dump wagon for hauling rubbish and ashes.

1919

Upgrading Horsepower

The company buys its first truck, a used Old Reliable. As the second generation enters the business, the company is able to expand into 8 teams.

1925

Entering the Excavation Industry

The company enters the excavation business, staying active during the Depression years by building houses, contributing to the Chicago L Train project, and hauling for Sears Roebuck's main office.

1944

Homes and Defense

The company moves to Englewood and focuses on excavating for homes on the south side, as well as for defense plants around Chicago during WWII.

1947

Construction Boom

The company rapidly expands along with the developing southern and western suburbs. Its fleet grows to include 9 International Trucks, along with bulldozers, high-lifts, and the company's first backhoe.

1957

Expansion and Incorporation

Excavating over 600 homes annually, the company relocates to Evergreen Park to support its growth. With the third generation's entry into the business, it incorporates as H. Wigboldy and Sons, Inc.

1969

Upgrading Equipment

H. Wigboldy and Sons, Inc. relocates to its current home in Crestwood. It continues enhancing its equipment, including upgrading to Mack semi-trucks.

1975

Urban Renewal

The company shifts its focus towards industrial and commercial projects, aiding in the demolition of old structures and the construction of new ones.

1985

The Windy City

H. Wigboldy and Sons Inc. thrives while contributing to the city's growth, undertaking notable projects like renovating the Museum of Science and Industry.

1990

Job Diversity

As the fourth generation joins the business, H. Wigboldy and Sons Inc. expands its presence, undertaking diverse projects in both suburban and urban settings.

1999

Wigboldy Excavating Inc.

As the company approaches its centennial milestone, it formally rebrands as Wigboldy Excavating, Inc., marking a century of dedicated service.

Today

With the fifth generation fully integrated into the company, Wigboldy Excavating Inc. maintains its commitment to excellence and reliability. We eagerly anticipate laying the groundwork for the project of your dreams.
